Dr. Bannan and his team specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of cataracts, laser vision correction, diseases of the cornea, retina (including diabetic retinopathy, diabetic eye care, macular degeneration, retinal detachments, flashes and floaters), and glaucoma.

Dr. Ray Bannan

Dr. Raymond Bannan

Dr. Raymond Bannan is a Wheeling native. He received a Bachelor of Science degree (Cum Laude) in Biochemistry from the Ohio State University and a Doctorate in Medicine (Cum Laude) from the Ohio State University College of Medicine.

During his medical school years, Dr. Bannan engaged in research at The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. His work is published in The Journal of Steroid Biochemistry. He served his residency in Ophthalmology at the LSU Eye Center in New Orleans where he elected to spend an additional year in training mastering small-incision cataract surgery.

Dr. Bannan is certified by The American Board of Ophthalmology. He is an inductee of Phi Beta Kappa-America’s most prestigious academic honor society. Dr. Bannan has been practicing in the Wheeling area for 30 years and has performed more than 30,000 cataract surgeries. He is a founder and co-owner of Physicians Regional Surgery Center. He resides in Saint Clairsville.

Dr. Michael Alunni

Dr. Michael Alunni is a board-certified Ophthalmologist, specializing in the surgical treatment of
cataracts and glaucoma. He obtained his B.S. in Premedicine at Pennsylvania State University
and went on to receive his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He
completed his ophthalmology residency training at UPMC Eye and Ear Institute and fellowship
training with Garry Condon, a pioneer in advanced anterior segment surgery, complex cataract,
and glaucoma at Allegheny General Hospital.

Along with having a chapter published in Chandler and Grant’s Glaucoma, the definitive
textbook on glaucoma, Dr. Alunni has been involved in multiple pharmacologic and surgical
studies as well as speaking on the surgical management of cataracts and glaucoma. He has held
academic appointments at both at Temple University School of Medicine and Drexel University
College of Medicine, teaching and mentoring medical students. During his time with Dr. Condon
at Allegheny General Hospital, he trained new fellows in medical and surgical care of complex
cataracts and advanced glaucoma. His passion for teaching was recognized when he received
the Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award at UPMC.

Dr. Alunni cares for patients with anterior segment pathology providing advanced surgical
intervention for both cataracts and glaucoma. He performs over 1,000 cataract surgeries yearly
including specialty intraocular lens implantations to correct astigmatism and presbyopia to
provide patients with the best possible post-surgical visual results. He is also one of the few
surgeons in Western Pennsylvania and the surrounding areas that performs advanced surgical
interventions such as sutured intraocular lenses and pupilloplasty. In the treatment of
glaucoma, Dr. Alunni offers a range of minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS) during
cataract surgery that help reduce intraocular pressure in the setting of glaucoma. These
procedures can help patients achieve better control of their glaucoma while preserving vision
and improving quality of life.

Dr. Alunni was born in NY but has spent most of his life in Pennsylvania, although his sports
affiliations still remain in the Empire State! He is an avid outdoor adventurer and spends most
of his free time hiking, exploring, and traveling.

Dr. Edward McDonald

A Marshall county native,  Dr. Edward McDonald did his undergraduate studies at West Virginia Tech and West Virginia University. He graduated from Southern College of Optometry as a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Honor Society in 2000. 

With over 20 years of experience, Dr. McDonald is proud to be serving the vision needs of the place he calls home. Dr. McDonald resides in Glen Dale, West Virginia.

Dr. Harold Pickens

Dr. Harold Pickens was born and raised in Belmont County, Ohio. After earning his Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral degrees at The Ohio State University, he returned to practice optometry in the Ohio Valley.

He began to practice in 1983 at the Bellaire Clinic, went to the Professional Center of East Ohio Medical Center in 1994, and is concluding his career in the practice of Dr. Raymond Bannan. He has spent his entire 38 year career serving the people of the Ohio Valley.

Dr. Pickens is an avid outdoorsman and tennis player. He resides in Wheeling with his wife Debbie.
